OCTOBER 8 IS INTERNATIONAL PODIATRY DAY

Anyone can fall, but as you grow older, the risk increases. Every year one in three seniors will fall. Falls prevention isn’t just about stopping falls before they happen. For seniors, it’s about keeping your independence.

If your feet are sore. If your nail care is poor. If you have foot health problems.  Take note.  Today is a reminder that poor foot health and poor footwear choices can impact the way you walk.  can change.

OPMA – Ontario Podiatric Medical Association – recommends take a moment today and check out your feet and shoes.

  • Wear footwear that fits snugly which may mean shoes with Laces or Velcro fasteners that allow you to adjust the shoe to your foot.
  • Wear footwear that has a lot of contact with the ground such as shoes with a flat or low wide heel.
  • Wear footwear with a sole that grips such as non-slip soled footwear while at home rather than socks or slippers.
