Google and Yellow Page Advertising

Had a discussion today with my  yellow page sales rep about the misrepresentation of advertising by our Chiropody Colleagues as Podiatrists. All you have to do is google podiatrist in Toronto and see what comes up. We all pay a lot of money for promotional activity of our social and online advertising programs.

He said that many people cheat by putting words into their google ad-word campaigns that no one will ever see. For example if Chiropodist puts the word "podiatrist" in their ad-words list of items it will bring up the  Chiropodist sites when googling a podiatrist.

The other thing he said that "google" will clump similar terms together in different countries.

Ultimately to fix the problem the association needs to contact google and write a letter explaining the problem so that terms are separated in Canada. Maybe CPMA should do this . Also he suggested we get the college to do the same. He said if their role is to protect the public and avoid confusion then that is their responsibility if acting in the public's best interest.

When you go to the website for Ontario colleges, you will see that podiatry/ chiropody is taught .

No wonder we have a problem defining ourselves.

We let this go on for too long

I was looking at the upcoming complaints hearing scheduled for the COCOO and  noted to complaint of  Ms Flordeliza Sy, DCh. She, like many others that are really popping up on the COCOO's Disciple and Complaints list, did the usual stuff; that is Orthotic and Free Shoe abuse.

    http://www.cocoo.on.ca/pdf/discipline/NoticeofHearing-April-24-2020-Sy.pdf

So I decided to look at Ms Sy's website as it appears that she is in some trouble. I wanted to see it there was any contrition. I would be mortified and be quite concerned.

Both her website clarksonfootcare.com and her Linkedin account https://www.linkedin.com/in/flordeliza-sy-36941a1a/?originalSubdomain=ca have her listed as studying podiatry at University of Toronto and at the Mitchner and she has posted on LinkedIn that she is a "Podiatric PHYSICIAN"  no less!

I sent this to Felecia but got an auto response that she is busy.

All this to say that there is no shame or contrition and the COCOO is not enforcing it, so the battle may be over.

It doesn't sound like anyone wants to quit on our side. I won't.

This COVID19 nonsense has to stop. If we are waiting for Government to decide when we get back to helping people it will fail. Look how long we've depended on government to correct the wrong re podiatry cap. COCOO is a farce. They should be directing Ministry on the fact it's safe for us to see all of our patients

I have spoken with my yellow pages rep many times about this.  He stated that Yellow Pages is not in the business of verifying the content/words that people put in their ads that may not be an accurate representation of their business.  Basically YP doesn't seem to care about accuracy as long as they get paid.

I am not sure that YP is very relevant anymore as most people will go to a Google or Bing search engine before going to a YP site directly.  They are very overpriced for the service that they give.  I am considering cancelling with them and my website provider is in agreement with this.
