The premier stated on Thursday that non- emergency scheduled surgeries ( public and private facilities) in public hospitals, private hospitals and independent health facilities, clinics, and private practices can resume  on

May 19.  Does this not apply to podiatrists and chiropodists?

I was hoping to get something out to the membership yesterday but it was a long 24 hours. Don working his butt off for us.

We interpreted the Premier's announcement as directly applicable to our private clinics and a return to full service including elective surgery etc. The problem again begins and ends with COCOO. As you may have seen, they have stated that we must remain under current restrictions until "Directive #2" has been amended or revoked. We have been lobbying political contacts to pressure the Ministry but the ultimate decision has to come from the Chief Medical Officer of Ontario unless the COCOO legal team provides an alternate solution which is unlikely. We have been connecting with the CMO and Command Table regularly and doubling up our efforts with the OSC.

Nothing with our College ever goes smoothly. COCOO should be separating our provider's risks and benefits to the public from the other Colleges yet they seem to want to just take the path of least resistance again.

I'm trying over and over to share data and stories with COCOO, MPPs, media etc about the risks of delaying our care to diabetics and the elderly. Every bad outcome, amputation, death due to immobility from foot pain should be blamed directly on those that failed to act.

I made an attempt with the president of our college , Martin Hayles to ask that we not get lumped in with dentists . He replied with both an answer in CAPS ( which I assume was pissed at me ) , and said that it was the same type of email as coming from others ( assuming OPMA ). He asked me for something in writing as proof that the college was lumping us in with dentists so that he could take it to the college executive . I provided it to him as a direct quote from him , as the president of the college , in their initial recommendation to us of March 15 which we all got from the college and I said nothing has changed since then that I have seen . That was almost a week ago and I haven’t heard back from him . My question to the group is what does “ urgent “ mean ? Seems open to individual interpretation. Thoughts ?

What have we been doing in the past that was ever considered "non-essential"?
